Ford sponsors a unique press conference
2008-04-30On April 30, 2008, the WBO and IBF/IBO World Boxing Champion Volodymyr Klitschko and its next rival, an American boxer Tony Thompson, the official challenger for the WBO world champion’s title, gave a joint press conference.
Such a top-level event in the Ukrainian boxing became possible due to Winner Imports Ukraine, the official importer of Ford cars in Ukraine.
On July 12, on Color Line Arena in Hamburg, Germany, Volodymyr Klitschko, the world IBF, WBO and IBO heavyweight champion will defend his belts against a 36-year-old official WBO challenger, Tony “the Tiger” Thompson (31-1, 19 KO).
“I am glad we managed to arrange the press conference in my home town – Kyiv. This is one more step aimed to make Kyiv a world sports and cultural center. And naturally, to achieve this, our city needs changes. I am positive, and I have reasons for that, that such changes are about to happen”, Volodymyr Klitschko stated at the press conference.
It is on Color Line Arena that Tony Thompson beat Luana Krasniqi on July 17 2007, and became not only the intercontinental WBO champion, but got, in addition to the first line in the WBO rating, the status of official challenger for the world champion’s title.
“I want to prove that I can be rightfully called the strongest in the heavyweight division. I earned my right to fight for the world champion’s title. Boxing fans want to see duels where the best heavyweight fighters challenge the best. And I am ready to give this fight”, Tony Thompson said.
